Advocacy

The Western Wake Tennis Association represents our area tennis players as a class. In that role, WWTA

  1. Monitors county and town government activities relating to tennis and speaks out on behalf of the tennis community (local volunteers needed for each town)
  2. Provides rationale for the growth of tennis facilities to match the growth of population and participation
  3. Facilitates access of local organizations to grants from USTA, USTA Southern, and NCTA
  4. Educates government bodies and the public to the benefits of tennis and to the needs for tennis facilities and prograSave Wake Tennis

Save Wake Tennis

The “Tennis for Life” letter published in the Raleigh News & Observer’s People’s Forum on October 6, 2007 and a subsequent appeal to the Board of the Wake County Public School System. The message was to keep tennis facilities in plans for future high school construction. To read the letter to the editor click here.

Cary Needs More Tennis Courts

In January 2008, WWTA briefed the Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Advisory Board on the growing problem in court availability. In response to one short-term remedy, the Town of Cary and Wake County Public School System agreed to the joint use of the courts at Panther Creek High School. This step eases a critical shortage of practice courts in NW Cary.

Town Volunteers

WWTA cannot sway towns without the voice of town citizens. WWTA needs volunteers to present a case to towns for more or improved facilities. Ideally, a WWTA member would be on each town’s Parks & Rec Advisory Committee. Please consider helping grow tennis in your town. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
