Drop-In Tennis for Seniors

Western Wake County has an energized senior tennis population. While some play in USTA Senior and Super Senior leagues, many more participate in drop-in sessions. These informal arrangements have the benefit of allowing participation with schedule flexibility. Typically, players show up at a designated facility, day of the week, and start time. Players fill courts on a first-come basis. Odd numbers of players are accommodated by rotating five on a court (server sits out the next game). The table below provides details on these senior tennis opportunities.

There are also active adult communities in the Cary area, including Carolina Preserve and Farrington Village, which have senior tennis activities restricted to residents. These players join with the open groups for Senior Appreciation Day activities.

Senior Appreciation Day

WWTA, Cary Tennis Park, and the Cary Senior Center host Senior Appreciation Day in the spring and in the fall. The events are free; just register on line or at one of the Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources facilities. Players from all over the area are welcome. The idea is to give everyone an opportunity to meet and play with others in the community. Everyone has the option to participate in any or all of the scheduled activities:

  • “Scrambled” Doubles – progressive doubles with a change of partners after each round which should provide many opportunities to meet new players
  • Catered lunch and recognition of the oldest players
  • Doubles clinics led by the pros of Cary Tennis Park
