Scholarships - 2010 Winners

The WWTA Scholarship Program is a direct response to the mission: to promote the game and spirit of tennis in Western Wake County. This program focuses on youth and directly supports continued growth in skills for those showing dedication and promise. Scholarships are granted to middle and high school students for tennis camps and academic scholarships for graduating seniors toward their first year in college. Some of these awards overlap and complement the outreach initiatives to underprivileged and ethnic parts of our community.

WWTA awards scholarships to deserving young players to develop tennis skills and to reward tennis commitment. In 2008, WWTA received a number of excellent application for academic and tennis course scholarships. Two $1000 academic scholarships were awarded in the spring to graduating seniors with excellent academic, tennis, and community service records. Two $500 scholarships and three $250 scholarships were awarded to school children for tennis summer camps

Once the scholarship goals and budget are set, a Scholarship Committee advertises for applicants and then, from applications received, recommends a slate of awards to the Board of Directors. This process gives equal opportunity to all residents of western Wake County and is based on a number of established competitive factors. The goal is to have scholarships awarded by the close of the school academic year.
